Why does the app need my location?

Drift Ballistics uses your location only to fetch wind conditions for your area from a free weather service (Open-Meteo). Your location is never stored, never shared, and never used for tracking. If you’d rather not share your location, you can switch to City mode and type any city name instead.

Does the app work offline?

The ballistic calculator itself works offline — once you have a load entered, drop and drift calculations happen entirely on-device. The only feature that needs internet is fetching live wind conditions, which requires either GPS or a city name lookup.

Why are my numbers slightly different from another ballistic calculator?

Drift Ballistics uses a simplified G1 model calibrated against standard reference tables. It targets ±5–15% accuracy at practical shooting ranges (300–700 yards) for centerfire rifle loads. For extreme long range (1,200+ yards) or precision competition use, a full ballistic solver with G7 drag curves and atmospheric inputs is more appropriate.

Can I add a custom cartridge?

Yes. Choose Custom (manual) from the cartridge menu and enter your own muzzle velocity and ballistic coefficient (G1).

What does “wind angle” mean?

The wind angle is how the wind is hitting your shot relative to your shooting direction:

0° — head-on (no drift)
90° — full crosswind (maximum drift)
180° — tailwind (no drift)

You can choose how the angle is set: Crosswind (assume worst case 90°), Compass (use the iPhone’s compass to compute the real angle), or Manual (set it yourself).

Will there be an Apple Watch app?

It’s on our roadmap as a possible future feature. If you’d find this useful, let us know.

Will there be an Android version?
